One of the advantages of the Google Chrome browser is its extensive catalog of extensions. And the recently released new Microsoft Edge browser, powered by the Chromium engine, also offers users access to all Chrome extensions (in addition to Microsoft’s own limited list of extensions). But the process of installing the extension is not as simple and easy as in the case of Google Chrome, it will require a few additional steps, which we will explain in this material.

First you will need to download and install the new Microsoft Edge browser. It is available on the official site of Microsoft. After that you can start searching and installing extensions.

To do this, click on the three-dot icon located in the upper right corner of the browser screen next to the user’s profile picture. In the menu that opens, select the Extensions item. After this, in a new tab you will see a panel with extensions.

On the left side of the screen there will be a panel (you may need to click on the three horizontal bars icon to open it) with a link to the Microsoft Store extensions. Here you can select the resolution you like and click the Get button to install it in the browser.

To allow the installation of third-party extensions, you should activate the Allow extensions from other stores switch in the same left panel at the very bottom and then confirm your wish in the pop-up window that will open. Microsoft Edge developers warn that third-party extensions are not designed specifically for this browser and may affect its performance.

After that, you’ll need to open the Chrome Web Store in the Microsoft Edge browser tab. Here you can select the desired extensions and add them to Edge by clicking the Add to Chrome button.

All added extensions will be available through the Extensions menu item mentioned above in the article. Added extensions are grouped by the source from which they were installed: Microsoft Store and other sources.

Most of the extensions for Google Chrome install and work seamlessly in Microsoft’s new Chromium-based Edge browser. The exceptions are the color schemes for Chrome, which are also available in the Chrome Web Store, but put in a separate tab. It is possible that their support will be added in the future.
